About BW Carr Farms and Ovingdean Grange Farm

Ben and Abbie have lived and worked on Ovingdean Grange Farm since late 2014, however the farm has been in Ben’s family tenancy for 20 years.

Ben comes from a farming background and grew up at his home farm in Saltdean. There they had a dairy (Coombe Farm Dairies), local milk round, and a famous herd of pedigree Holstein cattle.

Ovingdean Grange Farm was used alongside this and the young stock that were due to go into the milking herd were reared here. However in 2011 Coombe farm sadly sold the cows and retired from Dairy.

Ben went to Brighton College and then on to Plumpton college to study agriculture, he has spent time working on many different farms in the UK and New Zealand. Since 2014 he has farmed at Ovingdean and built up a viable business rearing calves. Although not from a farming background Abbie grew up around animals, mainly horses, and studied dog grooming at Plumpton College.
As time has gone on we have added lots of aspects to the business like selling our home grown meat. It is really important to us that people understand where their food comes from. Animal welfare and sustainability are at the heart of our business.

Ovingdean Grange Farm is a council owned farm on the outskirts of Brighton. In 2008 Brighton & Hove council purchased the farm from The Cowley family and opened it up to the public for the first time. The farm was then immediately let to WD Carr Partnership who still maintain that tenancy now.
